Injury to the kidney in IgAN patients usually takes years to develop.
It occurs because IgA, a normal blood protein, accumulates in the kidney in very large amounts. Timely removal of the IgA could prevent loss of function or reverse the disease. Our solution is to remove the IgA in the kidney by injecting an IgA protease (an enzyme that cuts IgA) into the blood. The protease, originally discovered by the founders of IGAN Biosciences, is highly specific for human IgA. The Company is also developing methods to prevent IgA from depositing into the kidney.
